This wellness tour offers you a break from your hectic pace of modern life and time to immerse yourself in Finnish nature, easing your stresses away. You will enjoy unspoilt nature and experience the magic sound of silence. During the tour you will explore the gorgeous west coast of Finland along the shores of the Baltic Sea and it’s archipelago with beautiful forests and scenic landscapes where you will have the opportunity to fish, row, kayak, practise Nordic walking or swim. You can look forward to relaxed sauna visits while learning a little about Finnish sauna traditions, folk lore and Finnish mythology. During your tour you will enjoy fresh and healthy cuisine prepared with your help, using produce directly sourced from nature. Finland’s Nordic Taiga forests are full of wild food and during this tour you will gather for seasonal wild berries, mushrooms and herbs before cooking them over an open fire. You will spend the first couple of days of the tour in Noormarkku region, home to the historic ironworks area The Noormarkku Works and its present owners Ahlström Works. The next days you will spend in the island of Ryöväskeri which is a part of the National Park of the Bothnian Sea. This tour is suitable for smaller groups as well as single travellers. Made for those who need a break from modern day life with emphasis on well-being and the sustainable Finnish way of life.
Day 1: Arrival – Historic Noormarkku Works On arrival at the Ahlström Works area you will make your own way to the Noormarkku Club for a welcome dinner which will be served at 8 pm. Accommodation in the Ahlström Works area.
Day 2: Forest – Picking and gathering fruits of the forests After breakfast we’ll do a guided tour to one of the largest and most impressive ironworks areas in Finland, The Noormarkku Works. These historic ironworks are known also for the impressive examples of Finnish architecture. The works houses numerous beautiful old buildings such as a church, several villas, stately homes, workers' houses and old industrial buildings. Some of these beautiful old buildings are attributable to the world famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. Luncheon will be in the Club House and afterwards we will spend the afternoon in the forest to gather berries, mushrooms and other fruits of the forest that are in season while enjoying nature and her tranquil beauty. In the evening we will enjoy traditional evening in a “kota”, a traditional Lappish tepee, we’ll cook our dinner on an open fire while learning a little about traditional Finnish healing and mythology.
Day 2: Ryöväskeri Island – Boat excursion and traditional Finnish sauna After breakfast we travel from Noormarkku to Luvia. From the port of Laitakari we will take the boat to Ryöväskeri Island to an old marine guard’s station, our accommodation for the next nights. On arrival we will prepare the lunch together. After lunch you will have the opportunity to try your hand at rowing or just simply relax. In the evening you can look forward to a swim in the sea and the ultimate sauna experience, a Finnish smoke sauna. Before your sauna session you will learn how to craft a traditional whisk, which is a cluster of birch twigs, called “vihta”. By lightly striking the skin with the whisk you can boost your blood circulation and enhance saunas healing effects. After relaxing in the sauna we will cook dinner on an open fire and enjoy the rest of the evening calming down to have a good night’s rest.
Day 4: Ryöväskeri Island – Kayaking, fishing and relaxing in an herbal bath After the breakfast participate in a kayaking class. A professional kayaking instructor will teach you the basics of kayaking. Discover the beautiful coast with its sandy beaches, forests and rocky islands from a different perspective. Enjoy the accompanying light swell of gentle waves and with a little luck you might also spot some wildlife. Lunch is prepared together after kayaking. In the afternoon why not try your hand at fishing; fresh fish caught in these clean waters are a feast. In the evening enjoy the sauna and relax in a wild herb bath. After your bathing experience, feast on a true delicacy, freshly smoked fish that you yourself have caught earlier. There is nothing better as you enjoy the midnight sun.
Day 5: Ryöväskeri Island – Nordic walking, guided tour of wild herbs, herbal sauna After breakfast we’ll enjoy another kayaking excursion to experience the wild beauty of the Bothnian Sea Archipelago. With a little luck you will able to spot unique wildlife, i.e. White-Tailed Eagles and various seal species. Lunch is cooked together on an open fire and afterwards we will do a Nordic walking tour around the island whilst gathering fresh herbs to learning about their traditional use and significance. In the evening you can look forward to enjoying a Finnish herbal sauna, using the herbs you have gathered yourself. Dinner is cooked together on an open fire using healthy fresh ingredients and herbs.
Day 6: Departure After the breakfast on Ryöväskeri Island we will return to the mainland. On your way back you can once again enjoy the beautiful scenery and reflect upon the trip. Rested and relaxed you can begin on your onward arrangements.
Your accommodation: Accommodation is en suite twin shared rooms in Noormarkku and twin shared room with shared facilities at Ryöväskeri island.
Food: Look forward to unique dishes which you will help make communally on an open fire. The food will be prepared using fresh and locally sourced ingredients such as mushrooms, berries and herbs as well as fish that you have caught yourself.

Getting there: This tour commences from Noormarkku near the municipality of Pori. In the summer you can fly to Pori via Stockholm with NextJet. Alternatively you can also fly to Helsinki, Tampere or Turku and from there proceed to Pori by train or bus. Tampere can be reached by taking a Finnair flight via Helsinki and you can take an SAS flight to Turku via Stockholm or alternatively a Finnair flight to Turku via Helsinki. The Finnish railway company VR offers good rail connections to Pori from Helsinki and Tampere. From Turku the best way to reach Pori is by bus. Koiviston Auto Corporation offer direct bus connections.
