This, ‘country living experience,’ brings you to the independent Åland Islands between Finland and Sweden. Discover the beautiful countryside of the Åland Islands and get to know life on a local farm. (You will even be given the chance to help with some of the farm work! )You will visit several farms that produce local, Åland products, for restaurants and private consumers such as vegetables, meat and beverages. You can take a bike tour along the red roads of Åland, where you have time to enjoy the beautiful nature and visit interesting sites en route. On your last day, take in the capital of the Åland Islands, Mariehamn. Learn more about the history of these self-governing islands and visit The Maritime Museum, which has won many awards and belongs to the best, ‘Museums of Finland’ collection. This brief look at country living on the Åland Islands is suitable for groups up to a maximum of 20 persons.
Day 1: Arrival in the Åland Islands 16:30-23:40 Viking Line ferry from Stockholm Stadsgården-Mariehamn. Viking Buffet and beverage is included. Upon arrival at Mariehamn there is a bus transfer to Kvarnbo Gästhem in Saltvik, about 20 km from Mariehamn, where Ella Grüssner and her colleagues wait to welcome you. Accommodation is in double rooms. Dinner. Overnight in Kvarnbo for 3 nights.
Day 2: Theme: Country Living After breakfast, the bus and guide collects the group from Kvarnbo Gästhem. Today you will be helping out on a farm. The activity depends on the season. Lunch and dinner. You prepare a meal together with your guide and host. We use fresh, local products.
Day 3: Theme: Outdoor life Together with your guide, you we will cycle along the typical red roads (the colour comes from the rappakivi-stone), of Åland. You have the chance to take in the surrounding nature and local sites of interest. After lunch we go by bus to different farms that produce Åland products for restaurants and private consumers such as; vegetables, milk products, beer, different kind of meat and beverages. Dinner.
Day 4: Mariehamn, capital of Åland and departure from Åland to Stockholm Bus transfer from Kvarnbo Gästhem to Mariehamn. A guide will meet the group and walk you through Mariehamn City centre. You have the rare opportunity to visit the government of Åland, Ålands Lagting, to learn more about the self-governing islands. Mariehamn is a nice little City with shops, bars, and museums. It is well known for its many shipping companies through the centuries. The Maritime Museum has won many awards, and is worth visiting. Transfer to the harbour. 14:25-18.55 ferry Viking Line from Mariehamn to Stockholm Stadsgården, Viking Buffet inc. beverage.
Accommodation: You will stay in double rooms in Kvarnbo Gästhem in Saltvik, about 20 km from Mariehamn, where your host Ella Grüssner and her colleagues will take good care of you.
Food: During your trip you will be served local dishes and on day 2, prepare a meal together with your guide and host, using fresh, local products.
