4. Experience the sound of absolute silence
5. Eat fresh, healthy, local food, direct from nature

Take a break from day-to-day life to let yourself take in and listen to the peaceful surroundings and your inner-self. A two day stay in a quiet guesthouse is an ideal opportunity to rest, spend time outdoors, take some light exercise, feast on delicious local food, relax the mind and body, and listen to the sounds of silence.

Programme:

Day 1: Welcome to North Karelia
You can either make your own way to your guesthouse or if you have booked a transfer we will collect you from the airport or train station. Once you have settled in, there will be a welcoming event. This will either be; a short welcome song, a poem or a beautiful moment outside in nature. Let us surprise you!
After you have explored your accommodation and its surroundings, you can look forward to a sauna to recover from your journey. For dinner there is a Karelian specialty, Karelian pirogs. After dinner you can relax with a 30-minute-long light Yoga class or with some relaxation exercises.

Day 2: Relaxation. Sounds of the forest. Sauna
We start the morning with a 30 minute wake-up ritual in the form of forest-yoga. If the weather is not suitable the exercises are held indoors. This leaves you totally relaxed to enjoy breakfast. After breakfast we take a short 3-6 km walk through the forest. Our mantra for this morning is; ”at the source of the essential"; (In the winter we walk in snowshoes). We do several breathing exercises whilst listening to the sounds of the forest. For lunch there is delicious fresh sea fish and side dish cooked and served in front of an open fire. In the afternoon the sauna will be ready and you have the chance to relax your muscles in its deep heat, before having a delicious dinner of salad, seasonal ingredients and a vegetable Quiche with herbs. The day ends with another 30 minute light evening Yoga with stretch exercises or simple relaxation exercises.

Day 3: Listening to the sounds of the forest and relaxed for the journey home
Your final day begins with a 30 minute wake-up ritual in the form of forest-yoga. If the weather is not suitable the exercises are held indoors. After a delicious and rich breakfast, you take a short 1-2 km walk, (walking in snowshoes in winter) through the forest listening to its sounds and the sound of silence. When you return and before check out, you are served a lunch of delicious vegetable soup. After lunch you can return home relaxed and filled with lasting memories.

Getting there:
All nine guesthouses are scattered throughout the region of North Karelia, some relatively far away from each other. The easiest way to reach your guesthouse is to fly to Kuopio or Joensuu (depending on which house you have chosen) and book either a transfer from the airport to your guesthouse or take public transport. You can reach Kuopio and Joensuu with Finnair via Helsinki. Helsinki is well served by european and international carriers. Alternatively, you can fly to Helsinki and travel onwards by train. There are several daily train connections from Helsinki to Kuopio and Joensuu. The town Nurmes, which is located close to four of the guesthouses, is relatively easy to reach by train. Please note the train takes 4 to 6 ½ hours depending on which guesthouse you choose.
