“Cakes & History” 2-hour tour at Wiurila Manor

Welcome to Wiurila Manor in Halikko, Salo and its superb setting, which offers you a fascinating trip into Finland’s history.

Discover the history of Wiurila Manor:
Wiurila is an esteemed Manor of Finland. Wiurila Manor is mentioned in historical records as early as the 15th century. Since 1787, it has been in the possession of the Armfelt family and still is today. The estate is now managed by Anne Marie Aminoff, daughter of the Brüninghauses' and Armfelt family descendent.

Wiurila is recognised by its unique golden buildings and grand white columns. Wiurila’s neo-classical Manor house was designed by the first national architect of Finland, Italian Carlo Bassi. Carl Ludvig Engel, an esteemed 19th century architect, was commissioned to design the façade of the agricultural and domestic wings.

Through the years and successive heirs, the Armfelt family had a great influence on Wiurila Manor. Each generation put its own stamp on its development, none more so than Count August Armfelt (1826 – 1894). During his time, Wiurila had a brick factory, sawmill, windmills, a dairy, distillery and the oldest known Finnish brewery.

Today, Wiurila is a visitor centre comprising a public Bistro, Grand Ballroom, meetings & event spaces, a Guest House, Shop and golf course. Wiurila is set amongst natural parklands and Viurilantie Bay, a bird migration spot of international importance, is just steps away from the main buildings. Wiurila offers visitor activities, such as nature walks, history tours and creative workshops.

Cake & History Tour:
The 2-hour visit starts with a guided tour of Wiurila. Your group will visit Wiurila’s farm buildings and learn about their unique architecture. After, your group will visit Wiurila’s Home & Horse Carriage Museum, housing carefully preserved artefacts used in the Manor home over 200 years, and a unique collection of horse carriages. The Museum provides a magical glimpse into Finnish Manor life in times gone by. The tour concludes in Wiurila’s majestic Grand Ballroom, where portraits of the Armfelt’s ancestors adorn the walls. Your guide will explain the fascinating history of the family and their time at Wiurila.  A special Manor’s cake service is then served in the Grand Ballroom with coffee and teas. The fresh cakes and traditional sweets are hand-made by Wiurila’s own Pastry Chef, a specialty at Wiurila that is sure to delight! Tour guests can finish the tour with a visit to the Wiurila Shop, which stocks gourmet & local foods, home wares, gifts, and Wiurila souvenirs and history books.
