Treasures of winter nature

This journey, discovering the treasures of winter nature, takes you to Sysmä in southern central Finland. Here you can experience Finnish winter nature at its most beautiful and enjoy the winter activities on offer. Explore the surrounding nature walking with snowshoes and relax whilst ice fishing on the local lake. Learn the skills of cross-country skiing and test them out on the tracks surrounding your cabin and whilst doing so, enjoy the silence of the winter nature. In the snow workshop, you can let your creative juices run wild and see what you can build from snow; castles, sculptures, snowmen, etc. After an eventful day, you can relax in your private log cabin and bath in your own Finnish sauna.

Itinerary:
 
Day 1: Arrival
Arrive at Helsinki and after collecting your rental car, drive to Tervalepikon Torpat in Sysmä (about two-hours’ drive from Helsinki Airport). Accommodation is in either Vesan Villa or Tainan Tupa cabin. After arrival, time to relax.
 
Day 2: Snowshoe hiking and ice fishing
After breakfast in your cabin, it is time to meet your guide! Explore the surrounding nature by taking a hike on snowshoes! This private snowshoe tour is great for couples, friends and families. Your seasoned outdoor guide will lead you off the beaten path, through the forest to the snow-covered lake. Throughout the tour, you will have the opportunity to discover animal tracks and bask in the simple solitude of nature. Although the snow will eventually melt, the memories you create will last a lifetime! During the tour, a snack lunch is served around an open campfire. Later, you can test your luck ice fishing on the local lake. Here you can relax and meditate in your peaceful surroundings. If your luck is not in, not to worry, you have unwound and lost yourself in the beauty of a Finnish winter. Evening of leisure in your cabin.
 
Day 3: Cross-country skiing and snow workshop
You will spend today on skies and enjoying the snow! After your own leisurely breakfast, you learn the skills of cross-country skiing! During the 90-min lesson, you get to know the basics and then you can test them out on the tracks surrounding your cabin. After the cross-country ski school, it is time to see what you can build from snow: castles, sculptures, snowman, etc. Go wherever your artistic talents lead you. During the workshop, a snack lunch is served around an open fire. Evening at leisure in your cabin.
 
Day 4: Departure
After a leisurely breakfast, you can just relax and enjoy the last moments of your trip. Check-out is at noon.
 
Accommodation:
You will stay in either Vesan Villa or Tainan Tupa cabin by Tervalepikon Torpat in Sysmä:
 
Tainan Tupa:
This 120 square meters large and well-equipped cottage stands on a small pinewood hill about 50 meters from the lake.  The cottage has its own yard, jetty and beach area, as well as a terrace with a small barbecue grill (charcoal is not supplied). The cabin has three bedrooms (6 + 2 beds and a crib), fully equipped kitchen with basic cookware and tableware, a coffee machine, electric kettle, microwave oven, electric stove with oven, combined fridge-freezer and dishwasher. There is also a washing machine and a drying cabinet for the laundry. There are toilets both up and downstairs, a wood-heated sauna, washing room, dressing room and a heat-storage fireplace downstairs. Firewood is included in the rent. There is also free Wi-Fi.
 
Vesan Villa:
This 120-square-meter large and well-equipped log cottage stands on a slope overlooking a pine forest and has its own pond set amidst the tranquil Lakeland scenery. The cottage has three bedrooms and an additional bed in the hall upstairs. There is free Wi-Fi. The cabin has a fully equipped kitchen with tableware for up to twelve settings, a washing machine and a drying cabinet for the laundry, wood-heated sauna and a fireplace.

  • Group size: min. 2 persons, max. 6 persons
  • Bookings: At least four weeks prior to arrival.
  • Guiding language: English
  • The clients should have suitable winter outdoor clothing and shoes
  • The nearest shopping facilities are in Sysmä (7 km)

Getting there:
Arrive at Helsinki and after collecting your rental car, drive to Tervalepikon Torpat in Sysmä
(about a two-hours’ drive from Helsinki Airport). Helsinki is served by many European and international airlines with regular schedule services. There is a choice of car rental companies available in the arrivals terminal. If you wish to travel with your own car, you can reach Helsinki via ferry from Tallinn, Stockholm, Travemünde and Rostock. From Helsinki, you take the motorway 4/E75 to Lahti and Jyväskylä. The driving time from Helsinki Airport to Tervalepikon Torpat in Sysmä is approximately two hours.
