Self-guided cycling tour offering the best of the Turku archipelago

This island hopping cycling tour will take you along the streets and bridges of the Turku archipelago's myriad of islands on the south west coast of Finland. The route takes you through picturesque islands, over bridges and through the beautiful and peaceful archipelago, sometimes making use of the ferries to travel from one island to another and will be able to enjoy the scenic view of the archipelago from the water as well. Accommodation is in charming cottages, converted barns and high quality spas. Your route is a combination of the best of everything in the area. You get to stay in the most beautiful natural surroundings with dinner cooked by your hosts, but you also get to experience picturesque harbour villages with a choice of excellent local restaurants, and to stay in the heart of Turku. This tour is suitable for all active outdoor nature lovers, those travelling alone or small groups interested in discovering the stunning archipelago.
Tour itinerary:

Day 1: Welcome to Turku!
Make your own way to the beautiful hanseatic town of Turku on the south west coast of Finland and to comfortable B&B accommodation in the heart of Turku. Spend your evening around the historic town of Turku with its mediaeval castle and cathedral as well as enjoy delicious food and beverages in one of the towns many restaurants, cafés and bars.

Day 2: Turku to Kustavi
Distance:  68 km
After breakfast collect your bicycle and paddle north-west into the countryside and catch a ferry (around 45 minutes) to your the first island. Marvel the lovely scenery of various islands and after the first exhilarating day on the saddle reach Kustavi to overnight. Recover in the heat of a Finnish sauna after a long day and look forward to a delicious dinner. Your accommodation for the night is right by the waterfront, in a little log cabin with a thatched roof.

Day 3: Kustavi to Korppoo
Distance:  34 km
Start your morning early with breakfast and gear up as today you catch five different ferries as you travel from island to island eventually reaching the very heart of the Archipelago. You’ll cross the small island of Iniö before arriving at the island of Houtskär. In Houtskär enjoy the most challenging cycling routes of the region and of this tour. From Houtskär take the ferry (around 30 minutes) to the next island of Korppoo to overnight. Look forward to a tasty dinner that evening before retiring for the night in a renovated barn.

Day 4: Exploring the island of Korppoo
Today the entire day will be at your disposal to explore the island of Korppoo. There are various circuits on the island or on the neighbouring island of Nagu (Nauvo) which is highly recommended.  Whichever one you decide you are sure to enjoy.  The beautiful natural areas with the rocky islands, lovely harbours and the peaceful country roads await! Luncheon in one of the good, local restaurants and savour Finnish and regional specialities. After a full day and the numerous experiences return to you comfortable accommodation for a good nights rest.

Day 5: Korppoo to Naantali
Distance:  57 km
After enjoying breakfast paddle to the neighbouring island of Nagu (Nauvo). This is one of the main islands in the Turku Archipelago. You will cross the island and can take a break in the picturesque village of Nagu (Nauvo) known, amongst other things, for its bustling, beautiful harbours. Catch the ferry back to the mainland and proceed through Rämättylä to the beautiful coastal town of Naantali with its cobbled streets and old wooden chalets dotted around the lively harbour. You will spend the night in Naantali Spa Hotel which is within walking distance of a number of restaurants and bars enjoying the unparalleled ambience of this lovely town and some delicious food and drinks.

Day 6: Naantali to Turku
Distance:  14 km
After breakfast you will still have time to take a look around the picturesque coastal town of Naantali before heading back along the short route from Naantali to Turku. Once back in Turku return your bicycle and explore further on foot if you will.  Afterwards enjoy a meal and look back on your unique cycling experience. You will spend the last night in a comfortable B&B right in the heart of the city.

Day 7: Farewell, Turku!
After breakfast please make your own arrangements for departure.

Your accommodation:
During your tour you will be provided the best available accommodation ranging from renovated barns, through little log cabins right through to spa hotels. Stay in an en suite twin shared rooms with, except for the first night in Kustavi where accommodation is in a little log cabin with its own WC and terrace in the small harbour complex. You can use the neighbouring sauna with its shower facilities.

Getting there:
The best way to reach Turku is by air. Turku can be reached by taking an SAS flight via Stockholm or a Finnair flight via Helsinki. Alternatively you can also take the ferry from Stockholm to Turku. There are also hourly train and bus connections from Helsinki to Turku.
