Kuhmo Chamber Music:
Kuhmo Chamber Music is a world-famous festival which takes place in Kuhmo, Finland.  There are performing a vast of number of fabulous musicians from all around the globe. The two-week festival presents familiar chamber music classics, but also including some rarities. Every year the festival has a different theme.
 
The Kuhmo Chamber Music concerts were held at the modern Kuhmo Arts Centre hall with its excellent acoustics, the traditional Kontio School, Kuhmo's imposing Church, the intimate Burial Chapel and the Petola Visitor Centre.
 
In the year 2015 the performers were celebrated musicians and ensembles from Finland and all over the world. In addition to some familiar Kuhmo artists, the guests included the phenomenal bandoneon player Marcelo Nisinman, pianist Nino Gvetadze, a Kuhmo first-timer last summer, and mezzo-soprano Romina Basso. Among the ensembles were the Brentano Quartet of A Late Quartet film fame, the Danel Quartet and the Storioni Trio.
 
The program of 2019 will be published on December 2018.
 
Programme description:
 
Day 1/ Thursday: Arrival
  • Arrival in Vuokatti and check in the hotel. Dinner in hotel restaurant.
 
Day 2/ Friday: Kuhmo Chamber Music festival & Kuhmo Visitor Centre Petola
  • After breakfast in the hotel departure to Kuhmo Chamber Music festival and concert in Kuhmo's Church. The Festival Centre of Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival is situated by the lake and there is a lot to see and experience: souvenir shops, snack and drink, bars etc.
  • Visiting Kuhmo Visitor Centre Petola. Kuhmo Visitor Centre Petola is home to Finland's large carnivores and offers a window on the Kainuu wilderness. Here you can obtain information on the brown bear, the wolf, the lynx, the wolverine and the wild forest reindeer. At Petola, you can buy unique souvenirs.
  • Departure back to hotel.
  • Free choice activities before dinner. You can for example go to relax in Katinkulta Spa.
  • Dinner at traditional restaurant of Kainuu region Kippo. The restaurant is serving local food in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
 
Day 3/ Saturday: Explore Sotkamo & Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival
  • Breakfast in the hotel. Trip to Sotkamo by bike or by sightseeing train (8 km one way). In Sotkamo you can visit a traditional market place, beautiful Hiukka beach, historical wooden church from 1860s and museums. Lunch at local restaurant or by market place (free choice).
  • Departure to Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival.
  • 3 course dinner in Hotel Kalevala.
  • Concert in Kuhmo Art Centre hall.
  • Departure back to hotel.
 
Day 4/ Sunday: Hiking in the hills tour
  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • Hiking in the hills -tour. A relaxing hiking tour via the scenic route across the hills with local guide. You’ll get to enjoy the Finnish nature at its best – beautiful lake views, hill scenery and fresh forest. Drinks and delicious snacks included.
  • Check out and departure from Vuokatti.
 
Note: it is possible to lengthen your holiday with one to three days!
 
Option 1: Trip to Hiidenportti National Park
  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • After breakfast departure to Hiidenportti National Park. The park has many fascinating places and local guide will tell you about the nature and interesting story about a demon called Hiisi who has given his name to the National Park. The canyons of Hiidenportti are impressive. You will be astonished by shady spruce forests and flowery meadows. Drinks and delicious snacks as well as transportation are included. Route length is approximately 3 km.
  • Departure back to hotel.
  • You’ll have the afternoon for free choice activities.
  • Dinner at hotel restaurant.
 
Option 2: Bear Watching Evening
  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • Free time until lunch.
  • Lunch buffet at noon.
  • Bear Watching Evening. Departure from Vuokatti to Viiksimo, Kuhmo at 2 pm. You’ll experience the Europe’s largest carnivore, the national symbol of Finland - Brown Bear - in the nature! Truly an unforgettable experience and the best opportunity to take the shot of a lifetime from the comfort and safety hides. There is one seat for everyone with a camera hole. Packed picnic food is provided for the evening.
  • At 9:30pm after magical evening departure back to Vuokatti.
 
Option 3: Kuhmo Chamber Music concert
  • Breakfast in the hotel
  • One meal provided (lunch or dinner)
  • One concert on midday or afternoon
 
Tips how to spend time in Vuokatti:
 
Bowling:
BowlCircus Vuokatti is truly a versatile entertainment centre, located near by the spa hotel Holiday Club Katinkulta. There are 16 lanes for bowling, cafe/bar that serves both sweet and salty snacks with refreshing drinks, big screen for sports, pool tables, play room for children and facilities for small meetings. Spa hotel Holiday Club Katinkulta has also it’s own bowling alley.
 
Fitness & Gyms:
In Katinkulta and Vuokatti Sports Institute you can participate in weekly sport and fitness group activities, choosing the one according to your mood and abilities, from various range of options, such as LesMills course, stretching, indoor cycling, dancing and many others. In Katinkulta you can find everything for a perfect workout in the gym.
 
Golf in Katinkulta:
Everyone can use a simple 9-hole course, which doesn’t require green card. Renovated 9-hole club course Tenetti offers various hazards for experienced players and 18-hole Nuas course measures up to highest international standards.
 
Downhill car racing:
Try driving a race car down the Vuokatti slopes when all that limits you is gravity. This activity suits everybody who can drive.
 
Vuokatti Adventure Park:
Park is located in the middle of natural beauty, including a lake and 8 trails in its park.
 
Ski tunnel:
In Vuokatti skiing is also possible in summer time. The world’s first indoor ski tunnel was build in Vuokatti in 1997.
 
Snowboarding or snowtubing in snowboarding tunnel:
The Snowboarding tunnel provides training around the year for Vuokatti Sport Academy athletes. The snowboarding tunnel is also designed for everyone to have fun and try snowtubing in the tunnel.

Getting there:
The easiest way to reach Vuokatti is by flight via Helsinki. Helsinki is easily accessible, no matter from where you are travelling from, and is served by many international flights. If you want to travel with your own car, you can reach Helsinki via ferry from Tallinn, Stockholm, Travemünde and Rostock.
Flybe flights from Helsinki to Kajaani take around 1 hour 20 min. The airport is 40 km away and there is a bus connection from the airport direct to Vuokatti.
The nearest train station is located in Kajaani. There are several daily trains from different destination, most of them conveniently link in with the local bus timetables. Long-distance and city buses bring passengers straight to Vuokatti.
