Swim in the sea and select, ‘off the beaten track’ camping spots in beautiful surroundings 5. Cook your own food and spend the day as you please
Whether it is family, group of friends or company incentive, this adventurous expedition gives an opportunity to explore the wild and beautiful Finnish Archipelago National Park under the professional and welcoming guidance of our sea kayak expert. We tailor the days around the group and the weather. Go island hopping, explore wild islands, dive into the archipelago culture, swim in the sea and select where you pitch tents from the numerous, undisturbed camping spots. We will paddle in the stunning southwest archipelago of Finland, the most extensive, and in our opinion, the most unique archipelago in the world. A multi-day expedition will offer an, up close and personal view, of the nature and culture of the Finnish archipelago. Sleeping in tents and cooking our own food outdoors on deserted islands is an unforgettable experience. For an additional fee, we can book archipelago cottages, (with saunas) for the group, but we do recommend trying the experience of camping on the islands, especially if you have not tried it before. Our testimonials from; families with children, beginners wanting to take it slow and easy and sporty, experienced kayakers, have been highly complimentary and speak for themselves.
Day 1: Preparation and launching the expedition We collect you from Turku and take you to a suitable launching beach for the start of the expedition. We vary the places according to the weather and the group, but the driving time from Turku is usually a little over an hour. During the drive, we stop at a shop for food for the duration of the tour. You can ask us to shop and cater for you should you prefer. We start the first day with lessons on the fundamentals and safety of sea kayaking. The tour will be adjusted to your experience and wants. We paddle out into the Archipelago National Park, stopping at special places for breaks, perhaps a swim and regular snack and meal breaks. Your guide will help you with the outdoor kitchen and food preparation, or, prepare and cook for you, if it has been requested at the time of booking. In the afternoon, we land on an island suitable for camping, and build our camp. There is time to explore the island and relax and enjoy good food and good company.
Days 2-5: Paddling through the archipelago We pack our kayaks after breakfast and continue the expedition. During the three to six day expeditions, we have the chance to visit an outer archipelago island village in order to experience what life in the archipelago is really like. Throughout the tour, we are seeing and taking time to appreciate the wild national park nature. We can paddle, explore the islands, swim and relax and do whatever you want to do. Your guide will plan the best route to give you the chance to experience the most beautiful and fascinating sites in the area.
Day 6: Back to Turku In the afternoon, we reach the beach. A car will be waiting so we can load up and our guide will drive you back to where you want to go in the Turku area.
Note 1: Theses expeditions are arranged on demand.
Note 2: If you want to experience spending the night on one of the islands in an archipelago cottage, with your own sauna, this can usually be arranged for an extra fee.
Note 3: In our experience, the group usually wants to cook their own food, and our sea kayak guide is happy to help with selecting food in the shop and helping with the outdoor kitchen. If, however, you want the guide to buy, cook and serve all the food during the tour, this is also possible (+21€/person/day).
Accommodation: Accommodation is in tents at camping spots. Alternatively, for an extra fee, you can book a cottage, with its own sauna, on one of the islands.
Food: Your guide helps you with the outdoor kitchen and food preparation, or if pre booked, will shop, prepare and cook for you. If you are cooking yourselves, your guide will take you to shop pre the start of the tour.
