All about forest –
​Guided forest treks

Experience the Finnish forests at their best; beautiful scenery, calming environments, pristine nature and the purest air. Southern Konnevesi national park is surrounded by lakes and is in the Heart of Finland. This new national park offers, breath taking scenery and herb-rich forests hidden by rock walls and high cliffs. Some trails within the Southern Konnevesi national park have steep slopes for the experienced hiker.  ‘All about Forest’ guided treks, offer a safe experience and gives visitors lots of knowledge of the Finnish forests and surrounding waters. In addition to visiting the national park, guests can ride on Fatbikes from their accommodation to explore the surrounding forests. Perhaps take a short evening stroll to the Kuusa rapids and canal and fry sausages in a lean-to-shelter next to the waters. End the day in the relaxing warmth of a sauna, where you can reminisce on the day’s adventures. For the last night, experience the healing powers of a traditional Finnish sauna and treatments, given by a certified sauna-therapist. At the end of the day, you can snuggle down into the crisp, clean sheets and feel content with life.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Get to know the forests with Fatbikes
On arrival to Varjola, lunch is served before your first activity. As a first introduction to the forests and surrounding hills, a guide will escort you whilst you ride the trails on Fatbikes. Your first evening will finish with a sauna and sauna meal.
 
Day 2: National park and sauna treatments
A country style breakfast will get your day off to a good start and give you the energy for trekking in the Southern Konnevesi national park. A small snack will be served during your guided trek. When you return to Varjola, you will enjoy a delicious meal around an open fire in a hut and you will finish the day with healing sauna treatments given by sauna therapist.
 
Day 3: Kuusa rapids before heading home
After the breakfast, you can choose to take a River adventure. This includes walking on a cord over the old log floating river, crossing rapids by sliding over them on a cable and testing your skills at white-water rafting. After lunch, it is time to return home or continue your onward trip relaxed and with peace of mind and body.
 
Accommodation:
Your accommodation is in one of the Riihi Villas in a double room. This is apart-hotel accommodation with private bathrooms, own entrance and small private backyard. It is possible to swim in the lake (summer time).
 
Food:
Varjola offers delicious, high quality, traditional Finnish food using local, seasonal products. During your stay, you can enjoy Finnish home cooking and country feast food, like fresh fish and vegetables.

Getting there:
You can reach Laukaa from Helsinki by car, bus or train. The Finnish capital Helsinki is easily accessible, no matter where you are travelling from, and is served by many international flights. In Helsinki-Vantaa airport there are various rental car companies available. If you want to travel with your own car, you can reach Helsinki via ferry from Tallinn, Stockholm, Travemünde and Rostock. 
 
By car:
Take the E75 highway via Lahti to Jyväskylä. From Jyväskylä take the 638 and 637 to Laukaa. The drive takes approximately 3.5 hours (290 km).
 
By bus:
You can reach Jyväskylä easily by bus and there are several daily bus connections. From Jyväskylä you can take a local bus to Laukaa.
 
By train:
There are several daily train connections between Helsinki and Jyvskylä: tickets and prices
